Timothy Larsen Lecture

Timothy Larsen gave an excellent lecture on the history of science and religion. His thesis was that the science of the Victorian age was in harmony with religion at the time and that the idea of a “war between science and religion,” or “warfare thesis” is an incorrect representation of relations between religion and science. He demonstrated, by referencing various figures in the scientific world, that most scientists do NOT deviate from a faith in God and that a high percentage of those who did returned to the church. Citing the example of clergymen (from the Middle Ages and 17th century), Larsen shows that science and religion developed as disciplines under the guidance of the church and are compatible with each other still today.

You can read one of his articles at this website: http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/2008/PSCF9-08Larsen.pdf. This might actually be the article he presented.
